Author: David (Randy) Williams One of his most emotional acoustic albums (see track 2). This is the album I began to hone my own skills with. This is relaxing and thought provoking. You really ought to read the CD jacket along with this. If you play guitar, Phil provides you with his alternate tunings in the jacket so you don't kill yourself trying to get his sound from a standard tuning!

Author: James Kammin If you like acoustic guitar playing this is the album you should get. My dad had very eclectic tastes in music and I was able to turn him on to the CD before internet shopping was invented by algore. Dad's comment to me was "How come you can only find this CD in a Jesus-store"? I had a good laugh at that.
The album begins and ends with 'In The Light Of Common Day'. After the reprise 'When Night Falls' closes out the recording with the sound of crickets as if to say, "Good night, until we meet again".
'Fare Thee Well' is a neat tune especially once I learned that the chorus is Phil quoting The Beatles song 'Yellow Submarine'. It's quite amusing in concert.
'Warm As Tears' holds a special place in my heart. At one PK concert Phil was in the middle of this tune when a baby began to cry. Without missing a beat Phil went right into 'Brahm's Lullabye' and played that for a few bars and went right back into 'As Warm As Tears', again, never missing a beat. That was another one of those moments for me when I'm just stunned by Phil's talent.
Overall there are no duds on this recording. I highly recommend it .... and, no, I wasn't paid to endorse this CD.

Author: Garrett Lewis This is Phil's best acoustic instrumental album--ever. If you don't have this collection, don't delay a moment longer in obtaining one. But really, what is it about "Beyond Nature" that has made it so loved by many throughout the years? Quite simply, I believe the album radiates with pure emotion--the songs on this acoustic instrumental move me more than any other that Phil has made. It is out of print now, but Phil made an acoustic guitar instructional video right around the time "Nature" was released. A great deal of the songs on this video are from the record, and to watch Phil perform them is like watching anyone pour their heart out. "County Down," "Fare Thee Well," "Fragile Forest," and "As Warm As Tears" are very notable songs to look out for on this album. Moreover, Phil has said in the past that this was a rather easy album to make in terms of technical skill, but if you know Phil, then you know that his easiest musical pieces will probably be rather difficult for the common guitarist. Anyway, the point is that even though Phil exercises simpler technique on "Beyond Nature," it goes to show that the most emotionally captivating music emerges from that simplicity. For a great musical/emotional experience, I highly recommend this album, it is truly exceptional work. Five stars!

Author: Bob Smith (oncedarkness@clearsurfusa.com) This is a great c.d. The cut "A Place of Springs" makes me think of a time when my wife and I had our three young children with us in Ocala fl. There are many natural springs there. The water is crystal clear with a pure white sand bottom. Little springs bubble up every where you look. As we went wading in one of these brooks our children would step into one of these little springs and sink down past their knees while cool water gushed up beneath their feet! It seemed as if there were a hundred springs in this one area! This song perfectly captures the wonder of that place. God's play ground. Thanks Phil for capturing this special day in sound.
